Map Passion 10GR specifically control golden apple snail (gas)

Biology of GAS:

GAS (Pomacea canaliculata) was introduced to Vietnam around 1985 – 1988 and have been listed among the top of the worst invasive species in Vietnam agriculture field.

GAS is so rapid growth and breeding and hence rapid succession of generations. A male may oviposit about 500 eggs per time, it is divide into several cluches, which is very variable in size but averages about 260 eggs. Hatching generally takes place about 1 – 2 weeks after oviposition and continue to grow, breed for a life-span of about 2 – 3 years.

Prevention and control:

Cultural and mechanical control:

  • Cleaning the field, hand picking of snails and removal of egg masses.
  • Making shallow canals around the edges of the field, the snails collect in the canals and are easily removed.
  • Herding ducks in to the rice fields to eat the snail.
  • Higher seeding rates provide greater tolerance to damage by snail.
  • Placing stakes in the paddy on which the snail oviposit. And stakes with eggs are then readily removed.

Chemical Control:

  • Applying Map Passion 10GR to control GAS in rice field.
  • A molluscicide bait with specific attractant material.
  • A small pelleted formulation, thus effectively controlling newly hatched and matured snail as well.
  • Be formulated to withstand submergence, so having long residual efficacy.

Using:

  • Draining the rice field, snails will tend to gather and be immobile. Then applying the molluscicide will be more effectively.
  • In poor water management, molluscicide may be mixed with rice seed to apply for saving labor cost.

Dosages: 2,5 – 3,0 kg/ ha
